Parintins is a Brazilian city in the countryside of the Amazon state.. It is the second most populous city in the state, with 115,363 inhabitants, according to estimates by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in 2020.


It is located in the eastern end of the state, 372 kilometers in a straight line from the capital Manaus. Its area is 5 952 km², representing 0.3789% of the state of Amazonas, 0.1545% of the North Brazilian region and 0.0701% of the Brazilian territory. Of this total, 12.4235 km² are located in urban areas.


The municipality is known worldwide for hosting the Parintins Folk Festival, considered Cultural Heritage of Brazil by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN). It is located on the right bank of the Amazon River. The vegetation, typical of the Amazon region, is formed by lowland and upland forests, having, around it, a relief composed of lakes, islets and a small mountain range. The main form of transport between Parintins and the other municipalities is fluvial, in addition to air.

Geography

The municipality of Parintins is located in the state of Amazonas, in the Mesoregion of the Amazonian Center, which brings together 31 Amazonian municipalities distributed in six microregions, with the microregion to which the municipality belongs being the homonymous microregion, the westernmost of Amazonas and which brings together seven municipalities: Parintins, Itapiranga, Barreirinha, Boa Vista do Ramos, Maués, Nhamundá, São Sebastião do Uatumã and Urucará. Ethnic


Parintins is a city marked by cultural, political and economic traits inherited from the Portuguese, Spanish, Italians and also from the Japanese, given that the city had a relevant colony of these immigrants. One cannot forget the importance of Amerindians in terms of ethnic contribution. It was the Amerindians who initiated human occupation in the Amazon and their Caboclo descendants developed in close contact with the environment, adapting to the regional peculiarities and opportunities offered by the forest.
